“US Decision on Al-Quds Throws the Region into a Ring of Fire”

President Erdoğan, with regard to the US decision to recognize Al-Quds as Israel’s capital, said: “Taking such a step is tantamount to throwing the region into a ring of fire. If Mr. Trump says ‘Might makes right’, he is wrong. Being mighty does not mean being right. Right makes might.”

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan addressed workers at Ankara Esenboğa Airport before leaving for Greece for an official visit.

“AL AQSA MOSQUE IS MUSLIMS’ FIRST KIBLAH”

Regarding the US President Donald Trump’s decision to recognize Al-Quds as Israel’s capital and to move the US embassy there, President Erdoğan underscored that the decision completely disregarded a 1980 United Nations resolution and that no country except for the US and Israel has taken a step against this resolution.

Noting the Al-Quds has been considered a place of worship of Muslims, Christians and partially Jews, and that the Al-Aqsa Mosque is Muslims’ first kiblah, President Erdoğan said: “Taking such a step is tantamount to throwing the region into a ring of fire. Hey Trump, what are you trying to do? What kind of an approach is that? Political leaders are supposed to work to bring peace, not stir things up. Now, Mr. Trump’s remarks are aimed at stirring things up, not bringing peace.”

“AL-QUDS IS ALSO CHRISTIANS’ SANCTUARY”

Stating that he, as the Summit Chair of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, will convene the OIC Leaders’ Summit in Istanbul, and that he has been holding phone talks with leaders of countries, President Erdoğan said: “I even requested to talk to the Pope. I will speak with him tonight or tomorrow morning, because Al-Quds is also a sanctuary of Christians and I need to talk to him about this matter.”

“Regarding the US President Trump’s decision, I will speak with President Putin of the Russian Federation, as well as leaders of Germany, the UK, France, Spain,” President Erdoğan said. “It is no longer the duty of Muslims but all mankind. If Mr. Trump says ‘Might makes right’, he is wrong. Being mighty does not mean being right. Right makes might. We are right here.”
